Unfortunately, I don't see Agfa in the list of ON1. For non-contrasty emulations I have found Agfa in Nik Silver Efex to be very good. I don't have a lot of recommendations for you. any pointers on smooth, non contrasty BW film in your experience, Michael? I never really got into BW film in my early days.Īt least it would take 'some' guesswork out of my re-try I could go through them again when i get the time but. (I rarely use the word dramatic as it is usually over used and is subjective) but i didn't record the setting as i tried others in the 'testing'.

I did some quick manual BW adjustments/conversions myself and it was ok but then and found a really good BW preset in the films section that 'seemed to my eyes' to give a very broad DR with incredible smoothness and kept sharpness!. is was experimenting with some BW presets on a relatively contrasty still life scene. In any event, this would be an ON1 preset (done to their liking) and would not be a reproduction of the the Fujifilm Acros film simulation. Neopan 400, according to some articles is not Acros and has differences compared to Acros 100 (besides ASA/ISO).

For the record, I like DxO PhotoLab and use it from time to time, mainly for heavy noise removal. What I've been able to find so far is that Acros is really Neopan Acros 100 film. Returning to NIK would seem like a step backwards. Nevertheless, if someone has a strong need for a certain feature from any of the programs, then that is the one that he should use.Īs for local adjustments, I used NIK for several years with great success, but On1's local adjustments are much more precise and adjustable. Each of these programs has some advantages and disadvantages compared to the others, but on balance, I think that On1 Photo RAW offers the best total package. This is not to say that there are no remaining problems, but the same is true of all editing software, including Lightroom, DxO and Capture1. It is absolutely loaded with useful features and powerful tools that are easy to use with a little practice. The latest version 2018.5.1 is very fast and smooth. was unfinished and extremely buggy, but that is no longer the case. There is no question that Photo RAW 2017, at the time of its initial release.

I have been an On1 user since v8 and have upgraded with each new release. I didn't say people aren't having problems, it's just the extent which you seem to seems to be more uncommon.īut following a tutorial, not getting the same results, and blaming them.

Even this thread has people reporting problems. I am certainly glad that it works flawlessly for you but my experience is not as rare as you say. I do respond to threads where it is discussed and am most certainly not the only one. I am not angry and most certainly am not on a crusade. I know you're angry, I see you bashing On1 often.

They were pushing me to upgrade to 2018 but fool me once.

Plus their fantastic tutorial made it look easy but when I tried to follow along with my own photos, I never got anywhere near their results (usually it crashed multiple times during the session). I've tried to use On1 Raw last year and finally gave up because of the poor quality of the SW and the ongoing over-hype - promises and reality did not seem to intersect.
